Heart Rate For Weight Loss

Why is it important for you to know how to calculate heart rate for weight loss if you are a fitness enthusiast?

In order to lose weight, you will have to manage your calorie intake and your calorie output or loss. In essence, your calorie loss needs to exceed your calorie consumption creating a deficit in the equation.

One way of creating this deficit is to start some form of exercise regime which will enable you burn calories. There is a right way and wrong way to do these exercises but getting the best out of your workout routines means you have to aim for the target heart rate for weight loss.

So how do you calculate target heart rate for weight loss?

To get the target rate you will need to do a little calculation.

First we have to work out what your maximum heart rate is and you do this by taking away your age in years from a value of 220.

So maximum heart rate = 220 – your age

Once we have this value, then the rest is easy. All you need to do is exercise within a range of your maximum heart rate as calculated by your good self….

….and the range is between 60% and 75% of your max heart rate.

Here is an example.

Lisa is 25 years of age. Therefore Lisa’s max heart rate is 220 – 25 = 195

60% of 195 = 117
75% of 195 = 146

So, when Lisa goes to the gym or does her exercise routine at home or outdoors, she needs to have her heart rate racing between 117 and 146 to effectively burn calories that will enable her shed those pounds.

We all know about the value of exercises, getting your exercise regime to hit your target heart for weight loss every time, and dietary adjustment to effectively lose weight and shed fat.
